OBSERVING NATURE

Observing nature, especially animal nature, leads one to presume that success is based on conflict, upon striving to overcome obstacles, vanquishing competition so that only the fittest flourish; the unfit perish. The theory of evolution is based upon this presumption. Evolutionists argue that survival of the fittest is the driving force behind everything. Even without an intelligence guiding evolution, the mechanics of evolution are sufficient to insure that only the fittest survive.

On the other hand, if God did create the universe, God would, of course, want me to to try my very best to achieve the destiny he placed before me when he created me. But that destiny is not merely to vanquish competition and struggle to the top. My destiny is to become like God, to share in God’s life, to be considered as God’s child.

Focusing on the physical world overlooks the reality of the spiritual world. There are spiritual beings in God’s creation, and some of them are opposed to God. My real struggle is against their influence in my life.

So a conflict is really there, but it is much different than a conflict against other human beings. It is a conflict against evil.

I better be prepared for it.
