MY DAD

I never got to know my dad.
We lived together long.
We never shared our thoughts. Too bad!
Today, I see I'm wrong.

If two can feel so distant,
One can penetrate.
I wish I'd been insistent
That lonely shell to break.

Kind word, good deed, companionship,
Just anything to start.
He would respond with trembling lip.
I could have healed his heart.
